Unbound
Yogiños Unbound is our OHMazing™ program for Yogiños with special needs and opportunities. Yogiños Unbound is freedom from obstacles, from restraint, from the problems that stand between ability and limitations.
It's a philosophy that brings together all of the benefits of yoga with the special attention and adaptation that allows children with special needs to be unencumbered by physical or emotional limits. "Unbound" is about using traditional and adaptive yoga to increase flexibility, motion and coordination, while creating an environment of relaxation, inclusion and confidence.
In March we expand Yoginos Unbound when we introduce a new module to our growing Teacher Training program. Module 2: Teaching Yoga to Children with Special Needs, is a collaboration between Yoginos and Every Kid’s Yoga with Craig Hanauer, Founder, Every Kid's Yoga. This new module will be available at select locations.
"I have had many experiences working with children with cerebral palsy, ADHD and Autism. My older son has mild spastic diplegia cerebral palsy, which affects mostly his lower extremities. I introduced yoga to my son in elementary school and although the positions became frustrating to him, we both found that after holding stretches for a few minutes we could feel the muscles release, which made the stretches easier to achieve. My son enjoyed actually feeling the muscle release the stress in his body. My goal was to teach him how to do simple stretches that he could eventually do on his own if he felt overly tight. He is now sixteen years old and I see that he does the stretches on his own when he finds his back hurting or his hips are tight. Yoga is hard for him but we both have seen that it has helped his balance, posture and realignment of his body." ~ Eve Margol, Director of Yogiños Unbound
